Back and front book cover below

"A Show of Hands" is a photo-based softcover artist book inspired by prehistoric handprints on cave walls. I use the form of hands as a symbol of connection, action, and a way of weaving between inner experience and the outer world. Many of the photographs feature white cotton gloves as a medium for engaging the landscape—arranged as gestures, birds, and words. Traditionally used to handle precious objects with care, the gloves here suggest extending that reverence to our relationship with nature. Combining evocative images with reflective text, the book hopes to offer an imaginative and thought-provoking exploration of creativity, interaction, and connection.         I created the first draft of this book during my 2023 Vashon Artist Residency.
Below are a few images from the book ...

My Artist Bio and Description below & on the Studio Tour website
I've been working creatively through art making with various materials for over 50 years and have an MFA in Arts and Consciousness. I often see my life as my medium and art-making as a way to connect, engage, and/or transform my experience. My work has included temporary, site-responsive installations—often in nature—documented through photography, a practice I’ve been involved with since beginning in high school. More recently, I’ve been combining my photographs to create books and ‘multiples’, that is, combining several images together to form a singular visual piece.
Currently I find myself seeing eyes in the world around me and having ideas around ‘seeing’ and being seen. I ponder what I/we see and how the world might be seeing me/us while reflecting on the influence of our thoughts and feelings in relationship to our perception of the world and our experience. (Will have some current images on display from this series)
